A NOVEMBER WEDDING TO REMEMBER AT BASILICA HUDSON

Basilica Hudson  ·  Hudson, NY  ·  Hudson Valley Wedding Photographer Annalise & Alex A November Wedding at Basilica Hudson

Some weddings have a single unforgettable moment. Annalise and Alex's had about forty of them — and that was before the man on the toy tractor showed up.

Basilica Hudson is one of those venues that earns every word written about it. The exposed brick, the soaring industrial ceiling, the arched windows — it's a space that feels both raw and deeply romantic, especially in November when the light outside has gone silver and the candles inside do all the heavy lifting. From the moment I walked in, I knew this was going to be a day worth photographing carefully.

Annalise and Alex brought something equally remarkable: a wedding that wove together two cultures, two families, and an unmistakable sense of joyful, slightly chaotic love. The result was one of the most layered and meaningful days I've photographed at Basilica Hudson.

Getting Ready

Quiet Before the Beautiful Storm

Annalise got ready in a light-filled room that suited her perfectly — calm, unhurried, a little luminous. Her gown was extraordinary: an off-shoulder lace bodice with sheer bishop sleeves that managed to feel both vintage and completely modern. Her mother helped with the final buttons, the two of them laughing and tearing up in equal measure. These are the moments I'm always glad I showed up early for.

The Sofreh Aghd

A Table Full of Meaning

One of the most beautiful elements of Annalise and Alex's wedding was the sofreh aghd — the traditional Persian ceremonial spread laid out before the ceremony. Mirrors, candles, pomegranates, sweets, eggs, herbs, and a white rose resting on an open book of poetry. Each item carries its own symbolism: fertility, prosperity, sweetness, reflection. Set against Basilica Hudson's worn brick walls, the contrast between old world ritual and industrial space was quietly stunning. I photographed it slowly, because it deserved to be seen carefully.

The Ceremony

Every Seat in the Room Was Taken

The processional down Basilica Hudson's long aisle felt cinematic — a packed room of guests standing and turning, phones raised, Annalise walking between her parents with the kind of composure that only lasts until she caught Alex's eye. The ceremony took place beneath a chuppah draped in teal silk and lush greenery, officiated by Jeanne Stark of Hudson Valley Ceremonies, with the brick walls of the Basilica framing everything perfectly.

When it was over and they turned to walk back up the aisle as married people, Annalise's laugh said everything. Pure, wide-open joy. Alex looked like he'd been waiting for exactly this moment his whole life.

Portraits

Hudson in November

We slipped outside for portraits in the quiet streets of Hudson — bare trees, mountain views in the distance, that particular late-autumn light that makes everything feel a little bit like a film still. Alex in a navy tuxedo with a teal velvet bow tie. Annalise in those extraordinary sleeves. The two of them walking and laughing and occasionally stopping to look at each other in a way that made the camera practically irrelevant.

Back inside Basilica Hudson, the staircase gave us something moody and dramatic — the two of them leaning against the worn newel post, easy and comfortable, completely themselves.

The Details

The Thoughtfulness Was in Everything

The details at this wedding told a story all on their own. Each table was named for a book — stacks of actual volumes served as centerpieces, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie titles among them. The florals by Sprig & Social were white, blue, and lush — anemones, hydrangeas, and eucalyptus that felt both elegant and effortless. Columbia Rentals brought in the warm wood furniture that made the long tables feel like a dinner party rather than a banquet. PMI Productions handled the production, and every element looked intentional.

The Reception

Jens Lekman, Shorty Long, and an Absolute Party

The reception at Basilica Hudson was the kind that makes you forget what time it is. The room — exposed brick, string lights, globe chandeliers, candles on every table — was exactly right. Catered by Local 111, the food matched the setting: thoughtful, local, genuinely good.

Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman performed live during the reception, his voice filling the Basilica with something warm and slightly surreal. The first dance happened on a black and white checkerboard floor with Jens playing behind them — one of the more cinematic things I've photographed in a long time.

And then came Shorty Long. The legendary entertainer arrived mid-reception on a toy John Deere tractor — white cowboy hat, leather jacket, microphone in hand — and the room completely lost its mind. If you know, you know. If you don't, there's a photograph that explains everything.

The napkin-waving, the hora, the dancing that went until the last possible moment — Annalise and Alex's guests were fully committed from start to finish. By the end of the night, Atomic Music Group's DJ Sultan had the whole room moving and nobody wanted to leave.

Why Basilica Hudson

One of the Hudson Valley's Most Unforgettable Wedding Venues

I've photographed weddings at Basilica Hudson many times and it never gets old. The bones of the building do something extraordinary with light — both natural and artificial — and the scale of the space means you can have an intimate ceremony and a full-on reception in the same room. For couples who want something that feels genuinely different from a traditional ballroom or barn, Basilica Hudson is in a category of its own.

Annalise and Alex used every inch of it beautifully. Their wedding was layered, personal, culturally rich, and completely alive from beginning to end. It's exactly the kind of day I got into this work to photograph.
