A JOYFUL FALL WEDDING AT THE GARRISON IN THE HUDSON VALLEY

There’s something undeniably magical about fall weddings in the Hudson Valley. The crisp air, golden light, and changing leaves create the perfect backdrop for a celebration that feels both romantic and deeply personal. This wedding at The Garrison had all of that — and even more importantly, it had a couple whose connection filled every moment of the day with emotion, laughter, and warmth.

From the moment I arrived, it was clear this wasn’t going to be a stiff or overly formal wedding. These two were completely themselves from start to finish — playful, affectionate, emotional, and fully present with the people they love most. The energy throughout the day felt effortless in the best possible way.

Getting Ready at The Garrison

One of the things I love most about weddings at The Garrison is how seamlessly the entire day flows. With panoramic views of the Hudson River and surrounding mountains, every corner of the property feels cinematic in the fall.

The couple spent the morning getting ready with their closest friends and family, exchanging gifts, reading heartfelt letters, and trying to hold back tears long before the ceremony even began. There was so much anticipation in the air, but also so much joy. The bridesmaids laughed through hair and makeup while the groom and his friends shared stories and a few nervous jokes before heading outside for portraits.

As the late afternoon light filtered through the autumn trees, the entire venue glowed in warm amber tones that photographers dream about this time of year.

An Emotional Ceremony Overlooking the Hudson River

The ceremony took place outside overlooking the Hudson River, with peak fall foliage surrounding the property. Guests wrapped themselves in blankets as the couple exchanged vows under a sky that seemed almost painted.

There wasn’t a dry eye in sight.

One of the most beautiful things about photographing emotional couples is how naturally intimate the day feels. Every glance, every laugh, every tear becomes meaningful. These two held hands tightly through the entire ceremony, smiling through tears and constantly checking in with one another in the sweetest ways.

The ceremony felt deeply personal and incredibly genuine — the kind of wedding that reminds everyone why gatherings like this matter so much.

Sunset Portraits in Peak Fall Color

After the ceremony, we snuck away for sunset portraits while guests enjoyed cocktail hour. Fall at The Garrison is truly hard to beat. The mountains were layered in shades of orange, gold, and deep red, while the Hudson River reflected the soft evening light.

The couple made portrait time feel easy because they were so comfortable together. They danced, laughed, wrapped themselves in each other’s arms, and completely forgot about the camera. Those are always the moments that create the most meaningful photographs — the in-between interactions that feel real rather than posed.

Their joy was contagious.

A Fun and High-Energy Reception

Once the reception started, the energy shifted from emotional to wildly fun. The dance floor stayed packed all night, fueled by incredible music, heartfelt speeches, and guests who were clearly ready to celebrate.

One of my favorite parts of the evening was watching the couple move through the reception together. They hugged nearly every guest, laughed constantly, and genuinely soaked in every second of the night. It never felt rushed or performative. It simply felt like a celebration of two people who are deeply loved.

The candlelit reception space at The Garrison looked especially beautiful against the dark autumn evening outside, creating such a warm and intimate atmosphere indoors.

Why Fall Weddings at The Garrison Are So Special

It’s easy to see why The Garrison is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the Hudson Valley. Between the river views, dramatic landscapes, and incredible seasonal color, it offers a stunning setting in every direction.

But what truly made this wedding unforgettable wasn’t just the scenery — it was the couple themselves. Their openness, emotion, humor, and connection shaped the entire experience and made the day feel incredibly personal from beginning to end.

As a Hudson Valley wedding photographer, these are the weddings I love most: emotional celebrations full of authentic moments, beautiful light, and couples who are genuinely excited to be marrying their best friend.

If you’re planning a fall wedding at The Garrison and looking for photography that captures both the beauty of the setting and the real feeling of the day, I’d love to hear from you.
