Holly & Dean got married at the Locust Tree in New Paltz, New York.
It was a lovely wedding celebrating their union with a few cultural/family traditions.
Tradition number one, Holly’s dad taped a penny inside one of her shoes – an English tradition – bringing the bride good luck, fortune, and protection against want.
Tradition number two, the wearing of hats.
Now I’m not quite sure whether this was a tradition brought over from England by Holly, or the tradition of African American women wearing hats to church; or if it was the melding of two traditions on this very special day. Whatever it was, it was spectacular!
